Well after having to drive to Fort Worth for an appt. since the Dr. wouldnt release the records or was giving my PCM a hard time. and wanted to see Anthony himself.
We get there and the receptionist tried telling us that we may not get seen since we are Tricare Prime. I didnt realize not everyone in active duty was prime... And since we didnt have a referral. It's like you made us come here!! we tried to get seen at home! So they contacted the PCM and thankfully she is such an angel and already filed the referral i didnt know i needed. But it hadnt been approved yet. so i had to sign a waiver saying we would pay out of pocket if it was denied. Doubt that will happen. They havnt denied us yet. Well hope it wont happen anyway. Well our appt was at 1030 I had to fill out paperwork and Ry was not having that. he wanted to run around, so he was screaming his head off. Then we didnt get seen until noon. Ry was the biggest pill! i didnt plan on being there long. so i didnt bring snacks or drinks. Well at 11 he started throwing a fit cause he was hungry.
Thankfully they have people there called child life specialists that help with the kids. She brought us some grahm crackers and Ry's new friends gma gave us some gold fish. And while i was Anthony in x-ray, she took ry to a playroom.
Well to the actual appt. Anthony got two x-rays (well 4 cause she did a double exposure by accident) and he screamed the whole time. The Dr. wanted to reposition the bone just a tish so they sawed a slit 3/4 around his thigh and inserted a wedge. (see photo)
They liked the new placement so they used more of the green plaster and wrapped him up. It covered up where i signed his cast. But that was ok, i wanted to resign his tummy anyway :)
We have to go back in another week to check his leg again with more x-rays. Then we dont have to go back for 3 weeks. So he'll be in it a total of 6 weeks. but we are already down 2.
Josh will be in MN for the last week. so he wont actually be here when it comes off (his mama is getting married :)) We were all supposed to go. but dont wanna take anthony in the cast.
But my mama is going to come see us that week then and hopefully so is my friend Christi.
We are trying to plan when they cut it off. The dr. is only there on tue and thurs. My mom leaves the 24th (wednesday) 6 weeks are up the 27th, saturday.
So we are thinking we'll go down to dfw on the 23rd and have it off that day, then stay the night and play a bit then put mom on the plane in the am. anthony would only miss one day of school that way and get it all done in one fell swoop. He's already missed so much, and he really likes school.
He is doing ok overall. he whines a lot, because he's bored and gets tired of sitting on the couch. But he weighs like 50 pounds in that thing! I saw a video on you tube (google spica cast and the video will pop up) of a 3 or 4 yr old crab crawling around the floor. i really want to get anthony to do that. But with his Autism he doesnt understand what i want him to do. Even copying me isnt working. So i'll keep at it and hopefully next week he can crawl around the floor a bit and not be so immobile.
I also really wanna try and find a spica cast support group or some such and offer to make pants for children in spica casts. Pants are really hard to find. most end up wearing mens boxers or something. But i feel for all the parents whose children are stuck in them and want to help out... and pants are really easy to make. Maybe make a deal on 5 pairs. one for each day of the week...
Welp i'll post again when i get Anthonys weekly update from school here soon. About time to go pick him up.
